{"id":13392,"date":"2020-03-24T10:09:23","date_gmt":"2020-03-24T09:09:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ggba.swiss\/neuchatels-1drop-brings-medical-diagnostics-to-the-international-space-station\/"},"modified":"2023-07-04T13:39:59","modified_gmt":"2023-07-04T11:39:59","slug":"neuchatels-1drop-brings-medical-diagnostics-to-the-international-space-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ggba.swiss\/en\/neuchatels-1drop-brings-medical-diagnostics-to-the-international-space-station\/","title":{"rendered":"Neuch\u00e2tel\u2019s 1DROP brings medical diagnostics to the International Space Station"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Neuch\u00e2tel-based start-up 1DROP\u2019s medical equipment was carried to the International Space Station on the occasion of SpaceX\u2019s 20th commercial resupply service mission for\u00a0NASA.<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.1dropdx.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1DROP Diagnostics<\/a>, a Neuch\u00e2tel-based start-up dedicated to enabling precision medicine through non-invasive diagnostic tests, developed 1DROP a portable medical diagnostics device currently capable of detecting biomarkers of cardiovascular health, liver and kidney function from a single drop of a\u00a0sample with laboratory quality results.<\/p>\n<p>The start-up has announced its partnership with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iss-casis.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Space Station U.S. National Laboratory (ISS National Lab)<\/a>\u00a0managed by the\u00a0Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS), to collaborate on\u00a0lab on a chip technology for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.issnationallab.org\/research-on-the-iss\/areas-of-research\/life-sciences\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">medical diagnostics\u00a0on the\u00a0International Space\u00a0Station<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This mission will demonstrate\u00a0capillary\u00a0flow control\u00a0in\u00a0microstructures, particle focusing,\u00a0plasma separation, and will be quantified using fluorescent biochemical reactions. SpaceX\u2019s 20th commercial resupply service mission carried 1DROP devices to the International Space Station.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The ISS and space are the ultimate remote setting to demonstrate medical diagnostics. If 1DROP is suited to assess the health of astronauts in space, it&#8217;s suited to assess people\u2019s health everywhere on earth.
