We recently caught up with California-based\u00a0Mark White, Director USA at GGBa<\/a>, to talk about the impact of the pandemic on his daily business activities, the current trends in FDI, and the challenges he has addressed over the recent months.<\/h4>\n

How has the Covid-19 pandemic affected your daily life and job?<\/h4>\n

Covid has dramatically affected our way of life both at home and on the job. It went from going about our normal lives before the pandemic to trying to adapt, almost overnight, to what would be\u00a0the\u00a0new protocol in society. From\u00a0businesses, our homes, to our\u00a0children\u2019s\u00a0schools, everyone had to determine what and how to move forward while staying healthy and engaged with our day-to-day activities. Even though we have all somewhat adjusted, we continue to struggle to turn things around and get back to the way life was before. We\u00a0remain\u00a0optimistic that the worst is behind us.<\/p>\n

Measures to deal with coronavirus outbreaks are in place across Europe. What is the situation like in California?<\/h4>\n

It is very\u00a0similar here in California as it is in\u00a0the rest of the US and\u00a0Europe. The pandemic in\u00a0the US is affecting different areas\u00a0throughout the\u00a0country\u00a0including California in different ways at\u00a0different times. It is very unpredictable as we all know, especially in densely\u00a0populated areas which can be found\u00a0throughout the coasts of California. We hope that communities will begin to reopen as everyone is eager to be able to go out and resume their regular activities, however, we need to stay\u00a0vigilant in our actions to\u00a0control and eradicate this virus.<\/p>\n

Many companies around the world have postponed their investment plans \u2013 or canceled them altogether \u2013 under the influence of the economic crisis driven by the pandemic. What trends have you observed in the US?<\/h4>\n

The pandemic has\u00a0definitely altered a\u00a0company\u2019s traditional plans for\u00a0investment simply due to\u00a0the unknown and uncertain\u00a0environment. However, the longer this\u00a0situation has persisted, I have seen the trend that\u00a0companies understand they must be\u00a0prepared with a new plan in place and ready to move forward\u00a0quickly. So many companies are\u00a0already\u00a0adapting and even changing\u00a0their business\u00a0models to\u00a0identify ways that will make them even stronger on the other side when we finally get\u00a0through these times. It hasn\u2019t been easy for a lot of companies,\u00a0employees, and\u00a0families, but I am confident we will ultimately come out of this stronger given the obstacles we have had to overcome.<\/p>\n

\n

#StaySafeWithGGBa<\/h2>\n

Mark is wearing a Swiss\u2011made, antibacterial, reusable face mask, 3D\u2011knitted by
\nSwiss company Steiger<\/a>. Since inventing the world\u2019s first fully electronic knitting
\nmachine in 1979, Steiger has been providing the fashion, medical and industrial
\nsectors with pioneering textile solutions. The latest addition to the company\u2019s
\nproduct range is a machine that knits products in three dimensions. Harnessing
\ninnovation and digitalization, Steiger has become a technology leader in a long-
\nestablished industry. Today, it knits orthopedic and medical applications, as well
\nas high\u2011performance materials such as fiberglass and carbon fiber. The company
\nhas been selected to knit parts for the Solarstratos solar airplane<\/a>, which will fly at
\nan altitude of more than 25,000 meters.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
