{"id":14631,"date":"2021-11-16T15:17:48","date_gmt":"2021-11-16T14:17:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ggba.swiss\/inflamalps-takes-part-in-a-significant-biopharmaceutical-research-project\/"},"modified":"2023-07-04T13:40:24","modified_gmt":"2023-07-04T11:40:24","slug":"inflamalps-takes-part-in-a-significant-biopharmaceutical-research-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ggba.swiss\/en\/inflamalps-takes-part-in-a-significant-biopharmaceutical-research-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Inflamalps takes part in a significant biopharmaceutical research project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Based in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bioark.ch\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BioArk<\/a> in Monthey (canton of Valais), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inflamalps.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Inflamalps<\/a> has obtained the support of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.innosuisse.ch\/inno\/en\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Innosuisse<\/a> for an innovative project, which will bring together various research partners from Switzerland, Italy and New Zealand. The project is expected to last one and a half years and will end in May 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the project is to discover at least one new class of antimicrobial molecules effective against multi-resistant pathogens, based on extracts of fungi and extremophilic microorganisms. These would then be used in the treatment of serious or complex infections.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, the overuse of antibiotics has led to an increase in the number of multidrug-resistant pathogens. Today, more than 700,000 patients worldwide die each year from an infection caused by a multidrug-resistant pathogen.<\/p>\n<h4>Saving lives and reducing healthcare costs<\/h4>\n<p>Making a new class of antibiotics available against a multi-resistant human pathogen would have a real and significant impact, notably in the treatment of complicated infections. Ultimately, such a discovery would save lives and reduce healthcare costs.<\/p>\n<p>Mindful of the stakes, Inflamalps had previously identified an extremophile and six filamentous fungi that possess significant antimicrobial properties. With the Innosuisse project, Inflamalps wants to reach the next level.
