{"id":15167,"date":"2022-05-25T09:08:53","date_gmt":"2022-05-25T07:08:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ggba.swiss\/h55-teams-up-with-pratt-whitney-to-develop-sustainable-propulsion-technology\/"},"modified":"2023-07-04T13:40:35","modified_gmt":"2023-07-04T11:40:35","slug":"h55-teams-up-with-pratt-whitney-to-develop-sustainable-propulsion-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ggba.swiss\/en\/h55-teams-up-with-pratt-whitney-to-develop-sustainable-propulsion-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"H55 teams up with Pratt &#038; Whitney to develop sustainable propulsion technology"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The participation of Solar Impulse spin-off\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.h55.ch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">H55<\/a>\u00a0in the hybrid-electric demonstrator program follows <a href=\"https:\/\/prattwhitney.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pratt &amp; Whitney<\/a>\u2019s plans\u00a0of investing CHF 124 million, with the support of the governments of Quebec and Canada, towards developing sustainable propulsion technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Co-created by Andr\u00e9 Borschberg, co-founder and pilot of the Solar Impulse project, and based at on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energypolis.ch\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Enerypolis<\/a> campus in Sion (canton of Valais), H55 focuses on the entire propulsion chain starting from the energy source and its management, right through thrust and power, as well as pilot interface and all control systems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal has always been to target regional commuter transportation and with P&amp;WC, there is a perfect fit whereby our core technologies complement each other,\u201d said Andr\u00e9 Borschberg,\u00a0Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of H55. \u201cBoth companies share the same vision as to how hybrid-electric propulsion can offer a range of environmental and economic benefits. Having been selected by P&amp;WC is an important validation that our experience is valued by a reputable industry player. We are excited to be working in Quebec with P&amp;WC and several other industry and research collaborators in bringing our battery pack to the hybrid-electric demonstrator program\u201d.<\/p>\n<h4>30% improvement in fuel efficiency and commensurate reduction in CO<sub>2<\/sub><\/h4>\n<p>Collins Aerospace and De Havilland Aircraft of Canada are also key technology collaborators in Pratt &amp; Whitney\u2019s demonstrator project. The National Research Council Canada (NRC) and the Innovative Vehicle Institute (IVI) are also supporting the development of some of the component designs and electrical control systems for the project.<\/p>\n<p>Ground testing of the propulsion technology will already start this year, with a planned flight demonstration in 2024.
