machineMD<\/a> is a spin-off of the University Hospital of Bern,\u00a0Inselspital<\/a>, founded by Prof. Mathias Abegg, MD, PhD, and a team of entrepreneurs and medical device experts. The start-up\u2019s\u00a0goal is to bring the diagnostic quality of a highly qualified tertiary care specialist to where it is needed most, in primary and secondary care.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In collaboration with Inselspital, CSEM<\/a> and Helbling<\/a>, the company was awarded an Innosuisse project of CHF 1.25 million\u00a0to fully develop a prototype device. The\u00a0seed funding of CHF 3.2 million is complemented by\u00a0a convertible note\u00a0of CHF 1.2 million committed in 2021, which will now be converted into equity. machineMD\u00a0was further supported by a financial contribution from the canton of Bern.<\/p>\n

The most significant investor in this seed round is the Guido Fluri Foundation<\/a>, which is committed to improving the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors. The Guido Fluri Foundation is a leading member of the investor club associated with the Sitem Startup Club<\/a> in Bern.<\/p>\n

Combining virtual reality and artificial intelligence to empower neurologists and ophthalmologists<\/h4>\n

machineMD is developing a novel diagnostic device that enables complete, standardized\u00a0and automated neuro-ophthalmic examinations. Uniquely\u00a0combining\u00a0virtual reality and artificial intelligence,\u00a0the device will measure\u00a0biomarkers such as\u00a0eye and pupil movements\u00a0that can be used in the early diagnosis of brain diseases such as stroke, multiple sclerosis\u00a0and brain tumors. It will allow doctors and optometrists to perform eight fully automated examinations within 10 minutes and provide quantitative, objective\u00a0and reproducible measurements.<\/p>\n
