It is committed to fostering a collaborative environment, encouraging multidisciplinary engagement in AI research, education, and innovation. This approach aims to unite a diverse community of scientists, engineers, and practitioners in the pursuit of groundbreaking AI advancements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Co-directed by EPFL Professors Pascal Frossard from the School of Engineering (<a href=\"https:\/\/sti.epfl.ch\/\">STI<\/a>) and Marcel Salath\u00e9 from the School of Computer and Communication Sciences (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epfl.ch\/schools\/ic\/\">IC<\/a>) and the School of Life Sciences (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epfl.ch\/schools\/sv\/\">SV<\/a>), the Center is envisioned as a nexus for AI development and application. &#8220;AI&#8217;s extensive impact on life, including science and education, demands a collaborative and agile approach. This will enable us to use AI responsibly and productively for the benefit of individuals, communities, institutions, and society,&#8221; explained Pascal Frossard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EPFL AI Center will also coordinate a variety of AI-related activities. These include educational and strategic initiatives, as well as the institution&#8217;s flagship Applied Machine Learning Days (AMLD) event, which serves as a key platform for AI collaboration with industry and the public sector. Marcel Salath\u00e9 noted: &#8220;AMLD is a focal point for our collaboration in AI, aligning with global efforts to understand and mitigate AI-related risks.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reflecting global initiatives like the &#8220;Bletchley Declaration&#8221; \u2014 a commitment by 25 countries, including Switzerland, to address AI risks and develop cross-country policies \u2014 the Center is geared towards identifying and mitigating potential AI challenges. In the coming months, the EPFL AI Center will provide updates on its progress and developments.
