On 14 May 2025, the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV<\/a>) will officially open its new Children\u2019s Hospital, a purpose-built facility designed to bring together the majority of its pediatric services under one roof. Located opposite the main hospital building, directly above the \u201cCHUV\u201d metro station, the facility marks a significant milestone in pediatric care for Western Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CHF 204 million project, jointly developed by GMP Architekten (Hamburg) and Ferrari Architectes (Lausanne), was designed to enhance the patient experience and streamline healthcare delivery. Until now, pediatric services were spread across two locations in Lausanne. The new hospital will now house hospitalizations, general and specialized consultations, emergency services, radiology, and surgical activities at a single site, improving coordination and patient flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This reorganization enables a more integrated healthcare journey for patients and their families. The new facility is directly connected to the Maternity building, allowing seamless collaboration between pediatric, gynecology, obstetrics, and neonatology teams. It also completes the development of a coherent mother-child medical hub within the CHUV campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Combining medical excellence with child-friendly infrastructure<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Beyond its clinical capabilities, the hospital emphasizes a welcoming and supportive environment. Each floor features play and relaxation zones, and patient rooms include convertible sleeping arrangements for accompanying parents. Additional amenities include a fully equipped classroom, a public cafeteria, and a dedicated space for adolescents. A 3,000 m\u00b2 rooftop terrace includes a therapeutic garden and a play area, providing a calming environment in the heart of the hospital complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new hospital brings together a wide range of pediatric specialties, from cardiology and oncology to emergency medicine and surgery, within a university setting, reinforcing CHUV\u2019s role as a center of excellence in child health. The project also underscores the canton\u2019s commitment to the wellbeing of younger generations and its investment in high-quality, patient-centered healthcare infrastructure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
