The system enables continuous, ultra-stable atmospheric measurements from geostationary orbit, supporting more accurate and timely weather forecasting across Europe and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Modern meteorology increasingly relies on detailed three-dimensional measurements of temperature, humidity, and trace gases. From 36,000 kilometers above Earth, even minimal mechanical instability can compromise data quality. CSEM\u2019s CCM addresses this challenge through a frictionless, flexure-based design known as a compliant mechanism, ensuring optical stability over millions of cycles in the harsh environment of space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CCM builds on more than 35 years of CSEM expertise in precision mechanisms. A first-generation version previously flew aboard MetOp satellites, completing over 1.2 billion cycles in orbit. For MTG-S, CSEM acted as technical architect and system lead, coordinating Swiss and European industrial partners and delivering two flight-qualified models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By enabling the IRS instrument to continuously scan atmospheric profiles, the mechanism contributes to earlier detection of severe storms, heatwaves, and heavy rainfall. These improved forecasts support public safety, infrastructure protection, and economic resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond Earth observation, CSEM is applying the same precision engineering approach to
