{"id":39361,"date":"2026-07-06T08:21:48","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T06:21:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ggba.swiss\/?p=39361"},"modified":"2026-07-06T08:21:51","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T06:21:51","slug":"geneva-named-european-capital-of-brain-health-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ggba.swiss\/en\/geneva-named-european-capital-of-brain-health-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Geneva named European Capital of Brain Health 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Geneva has been named <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ean.org\/brain-health-mission\/geneva-european-capital-of-brain-health-2026\">European Capital of Brain Health 2026<\/a>, a title awarded by the European Academy of Neurology (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ean.org\/\">EAN<\/a>) in recognition of the city&#8217;s commitment to research, innovation and brain health awareness. <a href=\"https:\/\/campusbiotech.ch\/\">Campus Biotech<\/a>, the life sciences and neurotechnology hub, is among the Geneva institutions cited for the designation, alongside the HUG (Geneva University Hospitals), the University of Geneva and the CHUV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The title was marked in late June by a program of scientific and public events, including the EAN Congress at Palexpo, one of Europe&#8217;s largest gatherings dedicated to the brain and nervous system, and public talks on the Swiss Brain Health Plan held at Campus Biotech, alongside a city-wide awareness campaign built around three messages: sleep well, stay active and eat well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Home to research centers such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/wysscenter.ch\/\">Wyss Center<\/a> for Bio and Neuro Engineering, Campus Biotech has become a focal point for neurotechnology in Western Switzerland. In December 2025, it added an AI Hub operated by the HUG with the Wyss Center and the canton&#8217;s health department, a roughly 1,000-square-meter space bringing clinicians, researchers and AI specialists together to advance diagnostics and care for conditions such as epilepsy, stroke and depression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campus also hosts a growing cluster of neurotech companies. <a href=\"https:\/\/neurosoft-bio.com\/\">Neurosoft Bioelectronics<\/a>, co-founded by researchers from EPFL&#8217;s Neuro-X Institute, develops stretchable brain interface electrodes that have been tested in humans during epilepsy surgery, while <a href=\"https:\/\/wysscenter.ch\/partnerships\/business-development\/brainscape-medical\/\">BrainScape Medical<\/a> develops an implantable neuromonitoring platform, licensed from the Wyss Center, that has received a U.S. FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for pharmacoresistant epilepsy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To keep pace with demand, Campus Biotech is set to expand under Geneva&#8217;s Innovation Master Plan 2025-2027 with a new nine-story building of 3,500 square meters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Geneva has
