The start-up develops intelligent robots designed to operate alongside humans in real-world environments, with a focus on automating the repetitive tasks that limit productivity in manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than building a single general-purpose AI model, the company is developing what it calls an &#8220;Embodied AI flywheel&#8221;: a platform for gathering data and training small, task-specific AI models that can be trained efficiently in production while maintaining uptime. A human-in-the-loop system allows operators to intervene remotely and correct robot behavior, resolving edge cases instantly while continuously improving the underlying models and progressively moving the robots toward full autonomy. The software is paired with proprietary soft-robotic hardware in which physical safety is built directly into the mechanical design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Embodied AI already deploys robots on the factory floors of large European manufacturers for electronics production, kitting, flexible cable handling, logistics and automotive assembly. The funding will first bring its technology onto customers&#8217; production lines, then scale up production and refine its data collection and model training pipeline. A significant share will go to recruiting researchers, engineers and commercial profiles for its offices in Lausanne and Rome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company is led by CEO Francesco Stella, who holds a PhD in robotics and AI from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epfl.ch\/en\/\">EPFL<\/a> and conducted research at MIT CSAIL; CTO Kai Junge, who holds a PhD in robotic manipulation from EPFL; and COO Max Polzin, trained at ETH Zurich and EPFL, who previously led the growth and exit of Seervision. Its scientific board includes Prof. Josie Hughes of EPFL and Prof. Cosimo Della Santina of TU Delft. The start-up has been selected as a Google DeepMind partner and is part of the NVIDIA Inception program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A regional ecosystem for AI and robotics<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Embodied AI&#8217;s roots reflect the depth of Western Switzerland&#8217;s AI research base. The <a href=\"https:\/\/ai.epfl.ch\/\">EPFL AI Center<\/a> coordinates research across medicine, robotics, digital twins and edge AI, while the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swiss-ai.org\/\">Swiss AI Initiative<\/a>, co-led by EPFL and ETH Zurich, involves more than 800 researchers and produced Apertus, Switzerland&#8217;s first open multilingual large language model. In Bern, the Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.caim.unibe.ch\/\">CAIM<\/a>) develops AI-based tools for diagnosis and treatment, while in Fribourg the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Complex Systems (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.heia-fr.ch\/en\/applied-research\/institutes\/icosys\/\">iCoSys<\/a>) works with local companies on Industry 4.0
