Quatre ans plus tard, les travaux accomplis dans un projet soutenu par le <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snf.ch\/fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FNS<\/a> permettent de multiplier par 25 la puissance du faisceau \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de la cavit\u00e9 du laser, passant de 80 m\u00e9gawatts \u00e0 2 gigawatts.<\/p>\n<p>Cette puissance tr\u00e8s \u00e9lev\u00e9e ne survient que pendant un moment extr\u00eamement bref. Pour illustrer la bri\u00e8vet\u00e9 de cette impulsion, on peut dire qu\u2019une dur\u00e9e d\u2019une femtoseconde compar\u00e9e \u00e0 celle d\u2019une seconde \u00e9quivaut \u00e0 comparer le diam\u00e8tre d\u2019un cheveu \u00e0 la distance Terre-Lune (384\u2019400 km).<\/p>\n<p>Pendant ce laps de temps, l\u2019intensit\u00e9 du laser devient \u00e0 ce point gigantesque qu\u2019elle permet l\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration des \u00e9lectrons par le champ \u00e9lectrique de la lumi\u00e8re du laser. Selon Jaku Drs, doctorant au LTF, \u00ab c\u2019est carr\u00e9ment la puissance \u00e9quivalente \u00e0 celle d\u2019une centrale \u00e9lectrique nucl\u00e9aire qui est compress\u00e9e dans ces impulsions invisibles \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153il nu \u00bb.<\/p>\n<h4>Des perspectives d\u2019application vastes dans le domaine des lasers ultrarapides<\/h4>\n<p>La prouesse r\u00e9alis\u00e9e \u00e0 Neuch\u00e2tel a \u00e9t\u00e9 salu\u00e9e au sein de la communaut\u00e9 scientifique. Jakub Drs a re\u00e7u le Best Student Paper Award de l\u2019European Optical Society Annual Meeting 2021 \u00e0 Rome, tandis qu\u2019un autre doctorant du LTF travaillant sur le m\u00eame projet, Julian Fischer, a rafl\u00e9 trois distinctions similaires lors de conf\u00e9rences internationales prestigieuses entre 2021 et 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Toutes ces r\u00e9compenses d\u00e9montrent que les travaux men\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019UniNE constituent l\u2019\u00e9tat de l\u2019art dans le domaine des lasers ultrarapides \u00bb, a comment\u00e9 le professeur Thomas S\u00fcdmeyer, directeur du LTF, durant la laudatio de la soutenance de Jakub Drs dont il a supervis\u00e9 la th\u00e8se.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Les perspectives d\u2019application des lasers ultrarapides sont vastes, allant de la d\u00e9coupe fine de m\u00e9taux jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019imagerie.
