Cette avanc\u00e9e permet aux scientifiques de mieux comprendre les neutrinos, des particules insaisissables essentielles pour expliquer pourquoi l&rsquo;univers contient plus de mati\u00e8re que d&rsquo;antimati\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les neutrinos sont des particules fondamentales qui interagissent rarement avec la mati\u00e8re, ce qui leur a valu le surnom de \u00ab particules fant\u00f4mes \u00bb. Malgr\u00e9 leur abondance, ils sont difficiles \u00e0 \u00e9tudier en raison de la faiblesse de leurs interactions. Cette recherche s&rsquo;est concentr\u00e9e sur les neutrinos \u00e9lectroniques et muoniques, mesurant leurs interactions \u00e0 des niveaux d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie atteignant 1 t\u00e9ra\u00e9lectronvolt (TeV), le niveau le plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 jamais atteint. Il s&rsquo;agit de la premi\u00e8re observation de neutrinos \u00e9lectroniques dans le cadre d&rsquo;une exp\u00e9rience LHC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab&nbsp;Ce r\u00e9sultat de recherche est d&rsquo;une grande importance car l&rsquo;\u00e9tude des neutrinos \u00e0 des \u00e9nergies aussi \u00e9lev\u00e9es permet de mieux comprendre les lois fondamentales de la nature, d&rsquo;\u00e9tudier des processus rares et, \u00e9ventuellement, de d\u00e9couvrir de nouveaux ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes physiques \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Akitaka Ariga, chef du groupe FASER au LHEP de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de Berne. Les r\u00e9sultats ont \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9s dans la revue Physical Review Letters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le d\u00e9tecteur <a href=\"\u00ab\">FASER\u03bd<\/a>, situ\u00e9 \u00e0 480 m\u00e8tres du point de collision du LHC, utilise une technologie de pointe pour d\u00e9tecter les neutrinos de haute \u00e9nergie produits par les collisions proton-proton. Les premiers essais ont donn\u00e9 des r\u00e9sultats prometteurs et il est pr\u00e9vu d&rsquo;affiner encore le processus de d\u00e9tection. Au cours des prochaines ann\u00e9es, le nombre de neutrinos d\u00e9tect\u00e9s devrait augmenter de mani\u00e8re significative, ce qui permettra de mieux comprendre des processus rares et des forces potentiellement inconnues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de Berne joue un r\u00f4le crucial dans la recherche mondiale en physique des particules, en contribuant \u00e0 des projets au CERN et au <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fnal.gov\/\">Fermilab<\/a>.
