Tous deux r\u00e9sultent de la scission, le 1er ao\u00fbt, de l&rsquo;ancien laboratoire Advanced Materials Processing, dont le responsable Patrik Hoffmann prend sa retraite apr\u00e8s dix-sept ans \u00e0 ce poste. Cette r\u00e9organisation regroupe les deux axes du site en unit\u00e9s ind\u00e9pendantes et pose les bases d&rsquo;un \u00e9largissement des collaborations strat\u00e9giques avec des partenaires tels que l&rsquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epfl.ch\/fr\/\">EPFL<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le Laboratory for Multifunctional Materials and Interfaces, dirig\u00e9 par Barbara Putz, travaille sur la fabrication, le traitement et la caract\u00e9risation de couches minces, de surfaces et d&rsquo;interfaces \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide de technologies sous vide et laser, dans le but de conf\u00e9rer aux mat\u00e9riaux de nouvelles fonctionnalit\u00e9s. L&rsquo;un de ses axes porte sur le d\u00e9veloppement d&rsquo;interfaces programmables pour les mat\u00e9riaux composites, men\u00e9 dans le cadre de la bourse ERC Starting Grant InterBond. Ces structures visent \u00e0 garantir que les composants des futurs mat\u00e9riaux composites tiennent bien ensemble tout en restant s\u00e9parables \u00e0 la demande, une propri\u00e9t\u00e9 pertinente pour le recyclage et la r\u00e9paration. Les applications vont de l&rsquo;\u00e9lectronique flexible \u00e0 la conversion d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie et \u00e0 l&rsquo;exploration spatiale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le Laboratory for Advanced Metallurgy and Manufacturing of Metals, dirig\u00e9 par Christian Leinenbach, d\u00e9veloppe de nouveaux mat\u00e9riaux m\u00e9talliques haute performance et les proc\u00e9d\u00e9s de fabrication associ\u00e9s, avec un accent sur la fabrication additive. Au-del\u00e0 des g\u00e9om\u00e9tries complexes qu&rsquo;elle permet, le laboratoire consid\u00e8re la fabrication additive comme un outil de d\u00e9veloppement cibl\u00e9 de nouveaux mat\u00e9riaux, et entend acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer la conception d&rsquo;alliages et de proc\u00e9d\u00e9s en rapprochant les technologies de fabrication des m\u00e9thodes pilot\u00e9es par les donn\u00e9es, afin que des composants m\u00e9talliques avanc\u00e9s puissent continuer d&rsquo;\u00eatre d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s et produits en Suisse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Empa Materials Science and Technology  (What Is Series)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kMiPcVhjDUQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Des agents d&rsquo;IA pour la science des mat\u00e9riaux computationnelle<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette ambition centr\u00e9e sur les donn\u00e9es trouve d\u00e9j\u00e0 une traduction concr\u00e8te sur le campus de Thoune. Des chercheurs y ont d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 OptiMat Chat, une plateforme permettant aux scientifiques d&rsquo;utiliser les outils complexes de la science des mat\u00e9riaux computationnelle via une simple interface textuelle en langage naturel. Son premier assistant virtuel, OptiMat Alloys, cible les alliages \u00e0 haute entropie, une classe de mat\u00e9riaux compos\u00e9s de quatre m\u00e9taux ou plus m\u00e9lang\u00e9s en proportions \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s \u00e9gales, dont les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s m\u00e9caniques, thermiques et \u00e9lectromagn\u00e9tiques prometteuses se heurtent \u00e0 un nombre extr\u00eamement \u00e9lev\u00e9 de combinaisons possibles que le d\u00e9veloppement traditionnel par essais et erreurs ne peut couvrir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">D\u00e9velopp\u00e9 conjointement par Yang Hu, du laboratoire de Thoune, et Vladyslav Turlo, du laboratoire Computational Engineering de l&rsquo;Empa, l&rsquo;outil r\u00e9pond \u00e0 un obstacle pratique : appliquer correctement les m\u00e9thodes de calcul exige une expertise que les sp\u00e9cialistes des mat\u00e9riaux exp\u00e9rimentaux ont rarement le temps d&rsquo;acqu\u00e9rir. En son c\u0153ur se trouve un agent d&rsquo;IA qui s\u00e9lectionne les outils sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9s appropri\u00e9s, ex\u00e9cute des flux de travail pr\u00e9d\u00e9finis et synth\u00e9tise les r\u00e9sultats sous forme de figures, tableaux et textes de qualit\u00e9 publication, sans que l&rsquo;utilisateur ait \u00e0 coder ou \u00e0 param\u00e9trer l&rsquo;outil. Les chercheurs ont con\u00e7u le syst\u00e8me autour de la fiabilit\u00e9 et de la tra\u00e7abilit\u00e9. Les r\u00e9sultats scientifiques proviennent d&rsquo;outils de calcul connect\u00e9s, de bases de donn\u00e9es et de proc\u00e9dures valid\u00e9es, et non du seul mod\u00e8le de langage, et ils sont enregistr\u00e9s dans une base de donn\u00e9es en vue de leur r\u00e9utilisation et de comparaisons ult\u00e9rieures. Vladyslav Turlo souligne que ces donn\u00e9es sont destin\u00e9es \u00e0 servir de point de d\u00e9part \u00e0 l&rsquo;interpr\u00e9tation par des experts et \u00e0 la planification d&rsquo;exp\u00e9riences, et non de r\u00e9sultats publiables en tant que tels.
