Il est suffisamment sensible pour collecter des donn\u00e9es \u00e0 tr\u00e8s grande vitesse \u00e0 partir de sources situ\u00e9es \u00e0 plus de 50 m\u00e8tres.<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"image-full\"><\/figure>\n<p>Utiliser un appareil connect\u00e9 sous l&rsquo;eau n&rsquo;est pas chose ais\u00e9e. Les ondes radio ne fonctionnent pas bien : elles sont facilement absorb\u00e9es par l&rsquo;eau, ce qui signifie qu&rsquo;elles ne peuvent pas aller plus loin qu&rsquo;un m\u00e8tre. De nombreux capteurs n&rsquo;offrent qu&rsquo;une connexion filaire, mais ils sont peu pratiques car il faut retirer les appareils de l&rsquo;eau pour r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer leurs donn\u00e9es. La communication acoustique est souvent utilis\u00e9e, mais elle est tr\u00e8s lente et peu fiable. Ce sont l\u00e0 des obstacles importants \u00e0 l&rsquo;efficacit\u00e9 des communications lorsqu&rsquo;il s&rsquo;agit de construction, d&rsquo;inspection, de surveillance et de r\u00e9paration sous-marines &#8211; comme dans le secteur de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie offshore.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"t-lead a-lead\">\n<p>Les ing\u00e9nieurs d&rsquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hydromea.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hydromea<\/a>, une spin-off de l&rsquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epfl.ch\/fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EPFL<\/a>, y ont trouv\u00e9 une solution : utiliser la lumi\u00e8re pour transmettre des donn\u00e9es sous la surface des oc\u00e9ans ou des lacs. Ils ont mis au point un modem sous-marin appel\u00e9 LUMA qui communique par le biais d&rsquo;une lumi\u00e8re bleue clignotant rapidement. Le modem convertit les donn\u00e9es en impulsions lumineuses qu&rsquo;il envoie, ou inversement, convertit les impulsions lumineuses qu&rsquo;il re\u00e7oit en donn\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<h4>Collecte instantan\u00e9e de donn\u00e9es pour les limnologues<\/h4>\n<p>Enti\u00e8rement contenu dans un bo\u00eetier en plastique, LUMA est con\u00e7u pour fonctionner \u00e0 des profondeurs allant jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 6\u2019000 m\u00e8tres. Le syst\u00e8me a d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 test\u00e9 dans l&rsquo;oc\u00e9an Pacifique, \u00e0 4\u2019280 m\u00e8tres de profondeur. Hydromea contribue \u00e9galement au d\u00e9veloppement de syst\u00e8mes de robotique et de communication pour <a href=\"https:\/\/lexplore.info\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">L\u00e9XPLORE<\/a>, une plateforme de recherche situ\u00e9e au bord du lac L\u00e9man, pr\u00e8s de Pully dans le\u00a0canton de Vaud.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"t-lead a-lead\">Les limnologues y utilisent LUMA pour v\u00e9rifier r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement les donn\u00e9es recueillies sous l&rsquo;eau et s&rsquo;assurer du bon fonctionnement des instruments de mesure, car les capteurs doivent rester sous l&rsquo;eau pendant des mois.
