Trois\u00a0ans plus tard, il est le co-cr\u00e9ateur d\u2019une nouvelle conception de portique, bas\u00e9e sur des aimants supraconducteurs, qui pourrait changer l\u2019avenir du traitement du cancer.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019hadronth\u00e9rapie est la premi\u00e8re radioth\u00e9rapie \u00e0 utiliser des particules charg\u00e9es pour d\u00e9livrer une dose tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9cise dans une tumeur. Contrairement \u00e0 la radioth\u00e9rapie conventionnelle, les tissus environnants sont moins irradi\u00e9s, ce qui peut limiter les effets secondaires et \u00e9viter le d\u00e9veloppement de m\u00e9tastases.<\/p>\n<p>Toutefois, un hadron \u00e9tant compos\u00e9 de particules charg\u00e9es, un champ magn\u00e9tique est n\u00e9cessaire pour garantir qu\u2019il atteigne la zone vis\u00e9e dans le corps du patient. Cela requiert un assemblage complexe d\u2019aimants dans de gigantesques machines.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kt.cern\/technologies\/gatoroid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GaToroid<\/a> permettrait de r\u00e9duire non seulement la taille des machines d\u2019hadronth\u00e9rapie, mais aussi leur complexit\u00e9. L\u2019id\u00e9e de cette recherche commune entre des institutions du canton de Vaud et de Gen\u00e8ve est de rendre l\u2019hadronth\u00e9rapie davantage accessible avec des machines qui n\u2019ont plus la taille d\u2019un immeuble de quatre\u00a0\u00e9tages.<\/p>\n<h4>Une r\u00e9gion aux installations de recherche de premier ordre<\/h4>\n<p>Bertrand Dutoit souligne les avantages de travailler dans une r\u00e9gion avec des installations de recherche de premier ordre. \u00ab Avoir le <a href=\"https:\/\/home.cern\/fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CERN<\/a> aussi proche est une fantastique opportunit\u00e9 de collaboration pour l&rsquo;EPFL. Enrico a eu acc\u00e8s \u00e0 des scientifiques de premier plan ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9quipe de l&rsquo;atelier technique o\u00f9 il a pu d\u00e9velopper le syst\u00e8me qu&rsquo;il a con\u00e7u et calcul\u00e9.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Le premier mod\u00e8le de d\u00e9monstration est en cours de fabrication.
