Envirotainer invests in Swiss Airtainer to scale sustainable air cargo solutions
19 August 2025

Swiss Airtainer has secured strategic backing from Envirotainer, boosting global adoption of lightweight, sustainable air cargo containers.
Vaud-based Swiss Airtainer has developed the lightest active temperature-controlled air cargo container on the market. The containers are equipped with solar panels for self-sustaining energy and two-way real-time communication, ensuring reliable monitoring during transit. Their design enables precise temperature control while cutting CO₂ emissions by up to 45%, translating to as much as four tons saved on long-haul flights.
Founded in 2019, the start-up has already validated its containers with leading pharmaceutical companies, airlines, and logistics providers. Regulatory approvals from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) further strengthen its position in the highly regulated cold chain sector.
Strengthening global sustainable cold chain logistics
The partnership grants Envirotainer exclusive global rights to include Swiss Airtainer’s technology within its portfolio. Established in Stockholm in 1985, Envirotainer is the world’s leading provider of active air transport solutions for temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals. The company, acquired in 2022 by EQT and Mubadala for EUR 2.8 billion, has built a reputation for combining reliability with sustainability, notably through its flagship Releye container family.
“This investment marks an important milestone in Envirotainer’s sustainability journey,” said Niklas Adamsson, Interim CEO of Envirotainer. “Swiss Airtainer’s technology enables significant CO₂ reductions and strengthens our commitment to sustainable innovation. Our mission remains to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of critical medicines while minimizing environmental impact.”
For Swiss Airtainer, the partnership provides a platform to accelerate production and research and development. “We are proud to join forces with Envirotainer, a company that shares our vision for a more sustainable future,” said Eduard Seligman, CEO of Swiss Airtainer. “This collaboration will speed up the global adoption of smart, low-impact cold chain solutions.”
