Swiss Federal President Guy Parmelin officially inaugurated Mondelēz International’s new Toblerone production line in Bern on March 10, 2026, marking the completion of a CHF 65 million investment that establishes Bern as the global Center of Excellence for the iconic Swiss chocolate brand.

Mondelēz International has officially inaugurated its new Toblerone production line at its Bern Brünnen facility, completing a CHF 65 million investment announced in 2025. Swiss Federal President and Minister of Economic Affairs Guy Parmelin presided over the ceremony on 10 March 2026, alongside Bern Mayor Marieke Kruit and Volker Kuhn, Executive Vice President and President of Mondelez Europe.

The investment, one of the largest in Mondelēz’s chocolate production network over the past decade, installs a state-of-the-art production line and modernizes logistics and infrastructure at the Bern site. It increases Toblerone’s production capacity by 20 to 30%, reinforcing the factory’s position as the primary source of supply for global demand. Around 90% of all Toblerone products sold worldwide are produced at the Bern facility, which exports to more than 120 countries.

The modernization also expands production capabilities for chocolate and nougat, and increases capacity for mass production. As part of the upgrade, Toblerone products manufactured in Bern will bear the Swiss flag on their packaging, reaffirming the brand’s Swiss-made identity in global markets.

Founded in 1908 in Bern by Theodor Tobler and Emil Baumann, Toblerone is recognized worldwide for its triangular shape and honey-almond nougat recipe. The brand has been produced at the Bern site since 1985 and holds a leading position in the World Travel Retail segment.
