Foodtech company Planetary has partnered with Aldi Switzerland to launch a vegetarian chicken filet made from fermented mycoprotein, now available in 242 stores nationwide.

Fermentation scale-up Planetary has reached a new milestone in sustainable food innovation with the national rollout of a mycoprotein-based vegetarian chicken filet through Aldi Switzerland. The product, branded as MyVay Gourmet Filet, is now available in all 242 Aldi stores across the country. This is the first time a mycoprotein-based product has been introduced on a national scale by the retailer.

Developed in collaboration with Planetary and its recently acquired Spanish subsidiary Libre Foods, the MyVay Gourmet Filet is made using Planetary’s proprietary fermentation platform. The central ingredient, Libre mycoprotein, is a fungus-derived protein produced through industrial biomass fermentation at Planetary’s Aarberg facility, the only commercial mycoprotein site in continental Europe.

The product reflects a minimalist approach to clean-label food innovation, containing only mycoprotein, egg white, sunflower oil, and natural flavoring. Rich in protein and fiber, low in saturated fat, and free from artificial additives, the Gourmet Filet offers a meat-like texture while being priced on par with conventional chicken, an important step toward consumer acceptance of sustainable protein alternatives.

The product was first showcased through The Retail Shelf, an innovation platform hosted by Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley and Aldi Suisse. Following positive reception, Aldi launched the MyVay Gourmet Filet as a permanent offering in July 2025.

“This collaboration with Aldi demonstrates that sustainable proteins can compete with animal-based meat on price, taste, and texture,” said David Brandes, CEO of Planetary. “We designed the Gourmet Filet to be simple, minimally processed, and above all, enjoyable to eat.”

Planetary has been scaling rapidly over the past year. In January 2025, Dutch agri-cooperative Royal Cosun invested CHF 3 million in the company, and in 2024, Planetary partnered with Konica Minolta to integrate AI-driven process monitoring into its fermentation systems. With Libre Foods now serving as its B2B food ingredient division, Planetary plans to expand its range into meat and dairy alternatives across Switzerland and the EU.
