Toblerone strengthens its Swiss roots with CHF 65 million investment in Bern
14 April 2025

Mondelēz International has announced a major investment of approximately CHF 65 million in its Toblerone manufacturing facility in Bern, underlining Switzerland’s central role in the brand’s global strategy.
Founded in 1908 in the Swiss capital, Toblerone is one of the most iconic chocolate brands worldwide, recognized for its unique triangular shape and honey-almond nougat recipe. Today, around 90% of all Toblerone products sold internationally are still produced in Bern, reinforcing the city’s role as the brand’s historical and operational heart.
The planned investment will include the installation of a new state-of-the-art production line scheduled to be operational by autumn 2025. The upgrade is designed to meet growing global demand for premium chocolate, while also modernizing the facility’s infrastructure, logistics, and chocolate and nougat production capabilities.
This move is part of Mondelēz International’s broader ambition to become the leading global player in chocolate by 2030. Toblerone, with its established position in world travel retail and growing popularity in premium markets, is a central pillar in that vision.
The Bern facility currently produces an average of four million Toblerone products per day. The planned upgrades are expected to further boost production capacity and consolidate the site’s strategic importance within Mondelēz’s European manufacturing network. It represents one of the company’s most significant chocolate-related investments in the region over the past decade.
As a nod to the brand’s deep Swiss heritage, Toblerone packaging for products manufactured in Bern will soon feature the Swiss flag. This measure underscores the company’s commitment to the city where it all began and highlights the value of Swiss-made quality in the global chocolate market.
By reinforcing its investment in Bern, Mondelēz International ensures that Toblerone’s growth continues to be rooted in the place where the story started over a century ago.
