AlpICT unveils an interactive map of Western Switzerland’s IT ecosystem
7 October 2025

With over 3,500 active organizations, AlpICT’s new map showcases the vitality and diversity of Western Switzerland’s digital landscape.
AlpICT, the regional digital innovation platform, has launched an interactive map that provides an unprecedented overview of Western Switzerland’s IT ecosystem. The tool lists over 3,500 organizations active in areas such as web and mobile development, data management, embedded software, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. It allows users to explore companies, start-ups, research centers, and incubators by expertise and canton, painting a detailed picture of a dynamic and growing sector.
The data reveals a region composed primarily of agile and specialized SMEs: 86% of the organizations employ fewer than ten people. Yet, their collective strength makes Western Switzerland one of the most innovative and digitally mature regions in Europe. Vaud and Geneva together account for 70% of all listed organizations, followed by Fribourg and Neuchâtel, which host thriving clusters in industrial technologies, software engineering, and applied research.
A thriving hub for digital innovation
This rich digital ecosystem builds on the region’s strong academic and technological foundations. Institutions such as EPFL, HEIG-VD, and HE-Arc generate a steady flow of skilled graduates, while research centers like CSEM and specialized platforms such as Trust Valley and AlpICT foster collaboration between business and academia.
Western Switzerland’s appeal also lies in its international orientation and data security culture, attracting global players alongside local innovators. Multilingual talent, political stability, and advanced digital infrastructure make it an ideal location for companies developing solutions in fintech, cybersecurity, digital health, and Industry 4.0.
By visualizing the region’s interconnected digital actors, AlpICT’s new map reinforces the visibility of Western Switzerland’s IT ecosystem, where innovation, trust, and collaboration drive sustainable growth.
