HARTING has inaugurated the extension of its production facilities in Biel/Bienne, in the canton of Bern. The new energy-plus building adds production capacity at a site the technology group founded in 1984.
HARTING has inaugurated the expansion of its production facilities, a plant extension celebrated with employees, customers, business partners and guests from politics and business. The new building has a floor area of 4,180 square meters and adds production capacity to the site.
The Biel/Bienne site was founded in 1984 as the second European subsidiary of the HARTING Technology Group and has been part of its international manufacturing structure ever since. According to CEO Philip Harting, the expansion is about the long-term future of the site and the people who built it, not only about additional production capacity.
The key handover took place in the presence of Susanne Giehl, Managing Director of HARTING Biel; Andreas Conrad, Board Member for Operations; Dietmar Harting and Margrit Harting, Senior Chairman and Senior Chairwoman; Glenda Gonzalez Bassi, Mayor of Biel; and Dr. Sebastian Friess, Head of the Office of Economic Affairs of the canton of Bern.
An energy-plus building
The new building is designed as an energy-plus building, meaning it produces more energy than it uses. A photovoltaic system covers its electricity demand, while heating comes from a pellet system and from waste heat generated by production. Philip Harting explains: “Buildings should not only meet today’s requirements but also rise to the challenges of tomorrow.”
HARTING points to Switzerland’s industrial tradition, its innovation and its reputation for quality and precision. It also credits the conditions in the Biel region and its skilled workforce, which have driven the success of the site for decades.
