Nanovetores, a Brazilian company specializing in the nano- and micro-encapsulation of active ingredients such as vitamin C and retinol, is setting up its new headquarters and a production plant in Bern. Founded in 2008 by Ricardo Ramos and Dr. Betina Zanetti Ramos, the company supplies encapsulated ingredients to the cosmetics, pharmaceutical and textile industries.

The move builds on the company’s partnership with Givaudan, the Geneva-headquartered flavor and fragrance group, which became a shareholder in Nanovetores in 2022 with a stake of around 48%. According to CEO Ricardo Ramos, the Swiss base will allow the company to combine Givaudan’s global reach with technology validated in Brazil and to develop more business in Europe and Asia.

The new plant will have a production capacity of up to 600 kg per day and will serve both the production of active ingredients and the research and development of new formulations. In the video below, Ricardo Ramos, researcher Aline Furuyama and production operator Matheus Viapiana Frutuoso present the project and the support of the Bern Economic Development Agency (BEDA) and the canton of Bern at every step, from setting up the company to finding housing for the team.

Nanovetores won Brazil’s National Innovation Award (Prêmio Nacional de Inovação) in 2022, in the sustainability innovation category for medium-sized companies.
