Zaphiro Technologies to enable the decarbonization of power grids worldwide
20 December 2022
Thanks to its grid monitoring and automation solution SynchroGuard, Vaud-based start-up Zaphiro Technologies has raised CHF 6.5 million.
Zaphiro Technologies is a pioneering Smart Grid company, who has developed a game-changing smart grid solution, called SynchroGuard, which is the first distribution grid monitoring and automation system based on the most advanced monitoring technology currently available: Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). SynchroGuard provides full grid visibility, efficiently integrates more renewables and EVs, and reduces the impact of blackouts thanks to unique fault location algorithms.
Paolo Romano, co-founder and CEO of Zaphiro, said: “Modernization of distribution grids is a core aspect of energy transition. The integration of clean energy sources is massively changing the energy flows and dynamics of distribution grids, generating a strong need for accurate grid monitoring, real-time management of blackouts, and failure prediction.”
The Lausanne-based cleantech start-up, which was founded in 2017 as a spin-off of EPFL, completed a CHF 6.4 million Series A financing round. The investors are ABB Technology Ventures, a private investor introduced by UBS Growth Advisory, CDP Venture Capital SGR (Corporate Partners I fund – Energy Tech sub-fund), Club degli Investitori, and Excellis. In addition, Zaphiro obtained financial support from the Technology Fund.
Zaphiro Technologies has gained the attention of several prominent power utility companies in Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia. With this Series A funding, Zaphiro will be able to expand its solution to new regions and industries, as well as continue to develop new innovations.
