Murten-based precision weighing and smart cabinet manufacturer Digi Sens is investing CHF 5.5 million in a third expansion of its Fribourg headquarters.
Digi Sens Holding AG, a precision technology company headquartered in Murten in the canton of Fribourg, has launched its third facility expansion project, dubbed Terza, with a planned investment of CHF 5.5 million. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2026, with completion anticipated approximately one year later. The project, which was originally scheduled to start in 2020 before being frozen by the Covid-19 pandemic, will add a new three-level building of 1,500 m² to the existing site, providing approximately 50% additional floor space across production, storage, and office areas.
The expansion is driven primarily by strong demand for Digi Sens’s smart cabinet product line, launched in 2016 and now accounting for nearly a third of the company’s revenue. The cabinets, which are used in industrial, medical, and construction environments for the secure storage of spare parts, tools, and hazardous products, feature high-precision internal scales and badge, mobile, or code-based access control, providing clients with real-time inventory data and eliminating material loss. The company produced over 1,000 units in 2025 and is targeting 2,000 to 3,000 units annually within two years, with clients including global tool manufacturer Hilti. The expansion is expected to support the creation of approximately ten new jobs over the next two to three years.
Founded in 1993 and established in Murten since 1998, Digi Sens employs 43 people at its Fribourg site and around 20 at a production subsidiary in Zilina, Slovakia. The company generates approximately 60% of its revenue internationally, with a product portfolio spanning truck weighing systems, weight sensors for elevator manufacturers, and logistics and inventory management solutions.
