The first stone of the JD7 building has been laid in Neuchâtel, marking a new milestone for the canton’s innovation district and its future microtechnology research infrastructure.

The first stone of the JD7 building was officially laid in Neuchâtel, marking a key step in the development of new research infrastructure dedicated to the microtechnology industry. The ceremony took place in the presence of cantonal authorities, including State Councillor Florence Nater, and representatives of the project’s stakeholders.

Led by Silatech SA, the JD7 project will deliver additional laboratory and cleanroom capacities in a context where demand currently exceeds supply. According to Silatech, the facilities are designed to support the fabrication of microsystems and silicon processing, addressing the specific needs of advanced industrial research.

Several major watchmaking groups have already secured space in the future building, including Patek Philippe Technologies SA, Rolex Quantum SA and Swatch Group. The CSEM will also lease space within the 10,000 square meters planned, reinforcing synergies between industry and applied research.

A long-term investment in industrial innovation

The CHF 70 million project benefits from strong public support. The canton of Neuchâtel and the Swiss Confederation are providing CHF 17 million in interest-free loans over 25 years, while the canton has granted the land through a 50-year surface right. Construction remains on schedule, with completion and handover planned for October 2027, further consolidating Neuchâtel’s position as a key microtechnology and innovation hub.
