Switzerland will host the 2027 World Summit on Artificial Intelligence in Geneva, further consolidating the city’s position as a global center for AI governance, innovation, and multilateral dialogue. The announcement was made by President Guy Parmelin at the 2026 AI Summit in New Delhi.
Since 2023, a series of high-level AI summits have been organized in countries including the United Kingdom, South Korea, and France, bringing together heads of state, ministers, and technology leaders to address the societal, economic, and regulatory implications of artificial intelligence. The 2027 edition will take place in Geneva, widely recognized as the capital of multilateral cooperation.
Geneva’s selection reflects its unique ecosystem at the intersection of innovation and international governance. The city hosts key institutions shaping global digital policy, including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which organizes the AI for Good Global Summit, and the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC), which has established its AI Hub in Geneva. Organizations such as DiploFoundation and the Geneva Internet Platform further contribute to capacity building and policy dialogue around emerging technologies.
The summit also aligns with the canton’s Innovation Master Plan 2025–2027, which strengthens infrastructure and supports AI-driven entrepreneurship, notably through the expansion of Campus Biotech and the development of the AI Health Hub in partnership with the University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG).
By hosting the 2027 summit, Geneva reinforces its dual role as both an innovation hub and a platform for international coordination. The event is expected to facilitate dialogue on AI’s applications in healthcare, climate, agriculture, and beyond, while advancing global standards for responsible and human-centered artificial intelligence.
