Geneva-based biometrics pioneer TECH5 has been awarded a 15-year contract valued at USD 54 million by the Virginia State Police to modernize its Livescan fingerprint technology.
TECH5’s Law Enforcement software solution will serve as the foundation of the Livescan project, designed with an open-architecture, cloud-hosted, vendor-agnostic platform. The solution will seamlessly integrate with Virginia’s Multi-Biometric Identification System (MBIS) and multiple third-party biometric capture systems, supporting both civilian and criminal identification through flexible kiosks across various locations.
The Livescan system, essential for capturing fingerprints in a digital format, will be updated to include new functionalities such as facial and tattoo recognition. These advanced features will streamline the process of identity verification, facilitating more accurate and timely data submission within law enforcement, ultimately strengthening public safety for Virginia’s residents and visitors.
This collaboration with the Virginia State Police demonstrates TECH5’s expertise and commitment to public safety and marks a new phase in the company’s 25-year history of developing advanced biometric and digital identity solutions. The project is a strategic step forward in TECH5’s growing presence in the law enforcement sector, where its AI and machine learning-enabled systems are transforming identity management in government and private sectors worldwide.
Setting new standards in biometric identity management
In the company’s press release, Lt. Dominic Sottile of the Virginia State Police emphasized the project’s potential to improve data accuracy and process monitoring: “Our fundamental objective is to better serve and protect the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Livescan Project will enhance the accuracy of incoming data, ensure timely submissions, and improve process monitoring, ultimately leading to more reliable results and improved public safety.”
In partnership with TECH5, the Virginia State Police aims to set new standards in biometric identity management, showcasing how AI-driven solutions can enhance the efficiency and security of law enforcement systems.
