MeduSoil partners with key industry players to valorize demolition and excavation waste, reinforcing Switzerland’s commitment to sustainable construction.

MeduSoil, a Vaud-based innovator in organic binder products for the construction industry, has recently secured a collaborative project awarded by the Service of Innovation and Economic Promotion (SPEI) of the canton of Vaud. This project aims to transform the way demolition and excavation waste is handled in Switzerland by introducing a large-scale recycling and bio-mineralization plant.

The initiative brings together a consortium of experts including Texum, known for its advancements in road stabilization and fiber-reinforced concrete, and Agramat, a leading real estate developer with a focus on innovative material applications. This collaboration will capitalize on the expertise of each partner to optimize the treatment of construction waste directly at a site adjacent to a landfill.

MeduSoil’s patented technology, which has previously been applied in various road stabilization and erosion protection projects across Switzerland and France, will now extend to creating building elements from treated waste. This approach not only supports environmental sustainability but also aligns with the Swiss government’s goals to reduce landfill use and improve waste management practices.

A profound impact on the local construction industry

The project highlights the potential of public-private partnerships in addressing environmental challenges and advancing sustainable development. It aims to produce landscaping elements and hybrid structural blocks that can be rapidly brought to market, offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional construction methods that rely heavily on landfills or chemically synthesized binders.

Dr. Dimitrios Terzis, CEO of MeduSoil, emphasized the significance of this venture: “This collaboration represents a pivotal step towards a sustainable economy. It reflects our commitment to innovating within the construction industry and our focus on waste valorization perfectly aligns with the urgent environmental needs in Switzerland and globally.” The efforts of this consortium are expected to have a profound impact on the local construction industry by providing more sustainable solutions and encouraging the adoption of new technologies that contribute to the circular economy.
