RealWear’s acquisition of Almer Technologies, backed by TeamViewer, signals a new chapter for industrial Augmented Reality (AR), merging Swiss innovation with global scale.

In a transformative acquisition poised to reshape the industrial Augmented Reality (AR) sector, RealWear, a global leader in wearable computing for industrial applications, has acquired Bern-based Almer Technologies. Backed by TeamViewer, this merger combines RealWear’s rugged solutions with Almer’s lightweight, AI-powered AR headsets to redefine standards for frontline worker tools.

Founded in 2021, Almer Technologies emerged as a disruptor in industrial AR, delivering user-friendly solutions like the Almer Arc 2 headset. Designed for remote maintenance, logistics, and customer service, the headset’s compact design and intuitive functionality have garnered international recognition. In September 2024, Almer raised CHF 3 million to fuel its growth, setting the stage for this strategic acquisition.

RealWear’s rugged, voice-operated smart glasses, already used globally in industrial settings, will now integrate Almer’s pioneering technology and subscription-based model. Together, they aim to make advanced AR solutions more accessible and seamless for frontline workers.

Sebastian Beetschen, CEO of Almer Technologies, emphasized the shared vision: “Joining RealWear allows us to push the boundaries of frontline worker solutions, combining our intuitive design with their established global footprint.”

An enduring impact on global technology landscapes

This acquisition also highlights TeamViewer’s integral role as a strategic partner and investor. TeamViewer, known for its enterprise AR software, supports global brands like Coca-Cola HBC and Ford. Their ongoing collaboration with RealWear and Almer has driven significant efficiency gains and cost reductions for clients, reinforcing the synergy between hardware and software in industrial applications.

Olivier Laplace, Managing Partner at Vi Partners and Almer investor, praised the merger’s potential: “By uniting RealWear’s strong brand and extensive distribution with Almer’s superior technology, the new entity is poised to lead the market.” Almer’s co-founders will join RealWear’s executive team, ensuring a unified leadership to accelerate global AR adoption.
