Romande Energie invests in YORD to boost building energy efficiency

Romande Energie has partnered with Fribourg-based start-up YORD to drive energy efficiency in building heating systems.

Romande Energie, a key player in Switzerland’s energy transition, has announced a strategic investment in YORD, a start-up specializing in the intelligent optimization of heating systems for buildings. The collaboration aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions from buildings, which account for 40% of Switzerland’s greenhouse gas output.

Founded in 2021 by engineers from HEIA-FR and based at Fribourg’s bluefactory innovation hub, YORD has developed a cutting-edge technology that analyzes a building’s thermal behavior and occupants’ habits. Its plug-and-play device connects to existing heating systems, regardless of their type or age, enabling up to 40% energy savings without requiring structural modifications.

YORD’s solution goes beyond energy savings, offering services such as air quality monitoring and detailed annual reports, making it a comprehensive tool for building efficiency.

Romande Energie, through its RE Ventures unit, invests in innovative technologies that support its customers’ energy efficiency goals. This partnership complements the company’s offerings, which include audits and phased renovation plans to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings.
